The burgeoning city-state of Echidna holds an ancient secret, recently rediscovered. Other powers sit impatiently at the gates, prepared to take this knowledge by force. The world stands on the brink of war. Into this unstable situation comes Mildred Pennyweather, an old mage finally returning to do right by her people. But what she brings with her could change the face of the World Unknown forever.
